Topic
Safe Harbor in Alimony: How It Shapes Fair and Sustainable Support:
Safe harbor provisions are becoming an essential tool in crafting alimony arrangements that balance predictability with real-life financial variability. In this session, we’ll explore how safe harbor thresholds operate, why they matter in cases involving fluctuating income, and how they help protect both parties from unintended consequences, such as overpayments, penalties, or unnecessary disputes.
We’ll discuss how to assess the appropriate safe harbor percentage, how it interacts with variable compensation structures (bonuses, commissions, RSUs), and how to model scenarios so support remains fair, sustainable, and aligned with the spirit of the agreement.
