Robert Horwitz has a PhD in Clinical and Developmental Psychology from Yale (1976, a BA from Yale (1968) and is a licensed psychologist in New Haven, CT. He specializes in family therapy and couples therapy, as well as psychotherapy with individual adults. Bob has been doing divorce and family mediation since the mid-90s.
His mediation work focuses on helping parents figure out how they want to separate/divorce and how they can craft developmentally appropriate plans for their children. He has developed a specialty in dealing with high conflict couples and has helped settle parenting disputes in a large number of cases that had been in protracted litigation. He is conversant with the fundamentals of child support/alimony/spousal support, etc., but leaves financial mediation to his attorney-mediator and financial professional colleagues.
Bob has been very active in statewide professional associations, including serving as president of the Connecticut Psychological Association (CPA) and the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce. He is a founding board member of the CT chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC).
Inspired by one of Connecticut’s distinguished judges, Joseph Steinberg, who cared deeply about helping families get healthier, Bob found his way to many mediation mentors who helped him acquire skills and techniques that help disputants find common ground.
