The Hummingbird’s* Journey:
Trauma-Sensitive Divorce Work

Divorce can be a traumatizing event for the separating spouses, and many people enter the divorce process with a history of unresolved trauma/PTSD. This professional training is designed to bring a psycho-physiological perspective to unresolved trauma.

Understanding trauma primarily as an injury to the nervous system opens new possibilities for effective treatment, as well as mind-body strategies to manage physical sensations, thoughts, speech, behaviors and beliefs stemming from trauma-induced nervous system dysregulation.

This training will begin with an overview of Somatic Experiencing, emphasizing its interdisciplinary approach to understanding and healing trauma. The program will include a brief description of the neuroscience and physiology of unresolved trauma/PTSD, and then focus on recognizing behaviors that are trauma-driven. Nervous system self-regulation skills for members of the divorce team will be introduced and practiced, as well as on-the-spot techniques for divorce team professionals to effect nervous system co-regulation with their clients.

This is an interactive, experiential training. Teaching methods include brief lecture, experiential exercises, role-play demonstrations, case study anecdotes, and group discussion.
