David A. McGrath

Managing Partner
Louden, McGrath, Bryan & Bissonnette, LLC

Through his entire legal career, David has focused his practice exclusively on family law, where he established a reputation as a skilled and successful divorce lawyer.

David was elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) in 2021 and serves as Vice President of the Connecticut Chapter. He was elected to the Connecticut Bar Foundation James W. Cooper Fellows Program in 2019, was Chair of the Connecticut Bar Young Lawyers Section from 2018 to 2019, and has been a member of the Connecticut Bar Family Law Executive Committee since 2011.

He has received numerous awards and accolades from the Connecticut Bar Young Lawyers Section, Hartford County Bar, and Connecticut Law Tribune, as well as consistent annual recognition from Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and Martindale-Hubbell.

In addition to his active cases, David authors the firm’s Connecticut Family Case Law Blog, a collection of appellate court recaps, which is of frequent interest to other Connecticut family lawyers. The Blog offers timely summaries of every Connecticut Appellate Court decision in the field of family law since 2017, providing an easily accessible and searchable repository of relevant case law on every issue faced by family practitioners.

David frequently presents updates on important developments in family case law and has authored multiple articles for the Connecticut Law Tribune on legislative changes impacting family law, notably revisions to rules in arbitration pertaining to children, and coercion as a form of domestic abuse (“Jennifer’s Law”), and for the AAML including treatment of embryos in dissolution of marriage and complex dissolution fact patterns.

He has served as a Court-appointed Special Master in Hartford, New Britain, and Middletown Family Courts.

David received his J.D., with Honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
