With a focus on Connecticut law and practice, this comprehensive training is designed to give each participant the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to mediate family matters. Through a combination of role play, lecture, demonstrations and discussions, the training covers every aspect of divorce and custody mediation, from the initial meeting through the separation agreement and uncontested hearing.

 

Among the topics covered are:

 

–Mediation theory and techniques
–Suitability for mediation and red flags
–Managing power imbalances
–Procedural road map for mediation
–Psychological and emotional principles, including  domestic violence
–Alimony, child support and parenting issues
–Tax, pension and other financial issues
–Co-mediation opportunities

Participants will receive a training manual and useful forms.

Program Trainers:

Eva M. DeFranco, JD:
Eva practices primarily in the areas of divorce mediation, collaborative divorce, and divorce litigation, and is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts.  Attorney DeFranco is a member of the family law section of the Connecticut Bar Association and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and past president of the Danbury Bar Association.  In recognition of her leadership and service to the legal community, Attorney DeFranco was elected as a James W. Cooper Fellow.  She has earned the AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Attorney DeFranco earned her certification as a divorce mediator in 2007 and a collaborative divorce attorney in 2005.  She is a founding member of the Collaborative Divorce Group of Western Connecticut and a member of the Academy of Professional Family Mediators.  She is past president and current board member of the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce.  She has served as a Special Master for the state’s Judicial Department for many years, making recommendations regarding settlement to litigants involved in the divorce process.  She has lectured extensively on various topics of divorce and collaborative divorce law and has been part of the Connecticut Family Mediation Training Group since its inception in 2014.
Attorney DeFranco is a Ridgefield native and currently resides in Sherman with her husband.

 

 

Lisa C. Gresham, CDFA:
Lisa Gresham is a certified Divorce Financial Analyst and founder of Equitable Divorce Solutions, LLC.  Ms. Gresham has over 30 years of financial and investment experience.  Since 2003, she has focused her practice solely on the complex financial issues specific to divorce.
Ms. Gresham is trained in mediation and interdisciplinary collaborative divorce and is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, Divorce Solutions of Connecticut, and the family law section of the American Bar Association.  She is also on the board of directors of the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce.
In addition to her divorce financial planning practice, Ms. Gresham also teaches public educational seminars on the financial aspects of divorce.

 

 

Howard M. Krieger, PhD:
Howard M. Krieger, Ph.D. is a psychologist licensed by the state of Connecticut.  Dr. Krieger received his Ph.D. from American University in 1977.  He received his post-doctoral training at the Yale University School of Medicine and has engaged in independent practice since 1979.
Dr. Krieger is a founding partner of Connecticut Resource Group, LLC.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Examiners as a forensic examiner with a specialty in clinical psychology.  Dr. Krieger has served as a Special Master at the Regional Family Trial Docket and has trained judges, attorneys, family relations officers, adult and child probation officers and supervisory staff.
Dr. Krieger is a trained divorce mediator and collaborative divorce practitioner whose areas of practice interest include psychotherapy, assessment, and consultation/teaching.  Dr. Krieger has also provided expert witness testimony in civil, criminal, and probate courts on psychological matters.

 

 

Louise R. Zito, JD:
Attorney Zito is a partner in the firm Biller, Sachs, Raio & Zito and a principal of the Connecticut Family Mediation Training Group.  Her practice is exclusively in family law with a concentration in mediation and collaborative divorce.  She is the immediate past president and current board member of the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce.  She is a founder of Divorce Solutions of Connecticut and a member of the Collaborative Divorce Team of Connecticut.  She is also a Special Master in New Haven family court.
Louise is committed to helping resolve family disputes through the collaborative divorce and mediation processes, convinced that they provide a positive structure for dispute resolution, help in transforming one family unit into two communicating, interacting units, and foster self-determination in decision-making that results in little to no post-dissolution conflict.  She believes deeply in interdisciplinary approaches to divorce and co-authored an article on co-mediation in divorce for the Connecticut Law Tribune.

 

 

CCND’s 40-hour training is intended for attorneys, mental health professionals, and financial planners and meets membership requirements of CCND, the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), the Academy of Professional Family Mediators (APFM), and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP).
